A practice where you are heard.
Most women who come to us have already described their symptoms before. Sometimes more than once. What was missing was rarely the examination itself – it was the time to explain the result so that a decision could follow.
Dr. Wagner's Practice is a gynaecological specialist practice in the heart of Basel's old town. We care for women through every stage of life: preventive care, contraception, fertility, pregnancy, cycle and hormonal complaints, menopause, chronic pelvic pain and surgical procedures.

Book appointment onlineTests are ordered for a specific clinical question, not routinely just because something might be found.
Sometimes the honest answer is that no treatment is required – or that the recommendation from your previous doctor was correct.
Our task is to give you the basis for that: what the finding means, which paths exist, what each realistically achieves, and what it costs – physically, in time and financially.
Just ask – we will tell you before treatment what basic insurance covers and what you pay yourself.

I completed my specialist training in gynaecology at Inselspital Bern and then worked for several years as a senior physician at the women's clinics in Biel and Basel. Since 2016 I have run my own practice in Basel.
My path there was unusual: I sat both the Swiss and the American medical licensing exams and focused early on two fields that rarely go together – intimate surgery and ultrasound diagnostics. Both still shape how I work today: I examine myself, and I operate myself.
My areas of focus are the care of high-risk pregnancies, cell and tissue changes of the cervix, hormonal complaints in perimenopause and menopause, chronic pelvic pain including endometriosis and adenomyosis, as well as reconstructive and aesthetic intimate surgery.
What matters to me here: women are often given either a quick prescription or a blanket refusal on these topics. Neither is real counselling. I take the time to explain the connection – even when the honest answer is less convenient than the one hoped for.
For balance, I take part in development cooperation projects that have taken me to India and Somaliland, among other places. The focus there is training local doctors, midwives and students: surgical skills in obstetrics and the use of ultrasound measurably reduce maternal and infant mortality.
Good medicine does not mean doing as much as possible. There are five tests and treatments we do not perform without a reason – from the annual Pap smear and the routine hormone panel to surgery for harmless ovarian cysts.
Each point comes with its reasoning and a source.
Read the five pointsResearch on stem cells from umbilical cord and cord blood, prenatal medicine and obstetrics. Award for the best medical dissertation of the 2005/2006 academic year, University of Basel.
In addition, conference presentations and abstracts, including at the annual meetings of the SGGG (2008–2011), on umbilical cord blood, mesenchymal stem cells and second-opinion 3D ultrasound of the fetal heart.
Our premises are located in a 19th-century townhouse on Spalenvorstadt, just a few minutes from the marketplace. We are easy to reach by tram and bus; a lift takes you comfortably to the first floor.
We work with modern ultrasound equipment, our own procedure room for outpatient surgery, and a treatment room for infusions and laser therapy.
You can book online or call us. When booking, briefly tell us what it's about – that way we can schedule the right type of appointment and give you the preparation notes you need in advance.
