Expert Opinion
Why I do not call ultrasound screening
In my opinion, ultrasound at the annual check-up is not screening but diagnostics for the woman in front of me. There is no evidence that population-wide ultrasound screening of healthy women saves lives, and I do not claim otherwise.
What it does provide is clarity within the same appointment
fibroids, cysts, the endometrium, the cause of abnormal bleeding. That is why I offer it, and it is the only reason I consider honest.
This assessment is personal.
It does not change the intervals for cervical smears
checking more often than intended yields no benefit, only findings that help nobody.

Costs and insurance
Premium Preventive Care is a private medical flat-rate service and is billed entirely as a self-pay service. It cannot be split between basic and supplementary insurance.
You may submit the invoice to your supplementary insurer. Whether and how much is reimbursed depends on your policy. Please clarify coverage directly with your insurer before the appointment.
With unremarkable prior findings, basic insurance covers the regular gynaecological check-up every three years. If you would like billing through basic insurance, please book the regular check-up. Premium Preventive Care is intended in particular for the years in between and includes additional services.

- Large – CHF 681: full scope of Small plus breast ultrasound
Note: with symptoms, a palpable finding, known fibroids or cysts, or medically necessary follow-up, the work-up is handled as a regular consultation through basic health insurance (KVG/OKP) rather than as Premium Preventive Care. In that case, please book a regular appointment.
Where we draw the line: Premium Preventive Care is not more frequent cancer screening. How often a smear makes sense depends on your personal situation – with consistently normal findings the interval in Switzerland is three years; with previous abnormal smears, proven high-risk HPV, after treatment of the cervix or with a weakened immune system it is considerably shorter. The difference lies in the depth of the examination, not in its frequency.

Pelvic ultrasound (Small and Large)
Ultrasound of the uterus and ovaries. In Small the imaging ends here – a breast ultrasound is not included.

Breast ultrasound (Large only)
With Large, the breast examination with ultrasound is added in the same appointment.

All findings are explained directly: what is unremarkable, what should be followed up and when. If further work-up is necessary, we organise the next steps directly.
