Honest disclosure is important to us
from a medical standpoint, virginity can neither be 'read' from nor 'proven' by the hymen – even a natural hymen does not always bleed during first intercourse. We discuss openly with you what the procedure can realistically achieve and what it cannot.
Grounded in every treatment is your free, independent decision. As long as this cannot be ensured – particularly in the case of noticeable pressure from third parties – surgery will not be performed.

After thorough assessment, the reconstruction is planned individually. Findings, tissue quality and your personal situation determine the technique and realistic expectations for the result.

Pre-operative note
Medications & supplements before the procedure
No aspirin, ibuprofen or other blood thinners in the 10 days before the procedure. Never stop prescribed blood-thinning medication on your own – any change must always be discussed with the treating physician.
Also stop herbal supplements
vitamin E, fish oil/omega-3, ginkgo, garlic and ginger preparations, ginseng, turmeric and high-dose vitamin C increase bleeding risk. Please disclose all preparations – including over-the-counter and 'harmless' vitamins – fully during the consultation.
Nicotine is the most important avoidable factor for wound-healing problems – smoking (including e-cigarettes and nicotine replacement) narrows skin blood vessels and reduces oxygen supply to tissue. Stopping smoking several weeks before and after the procedure is strongly recommended.
Diet also affects wound healing
a strictly vegan diet (and, to a lesser extent, a purely vegetarian one) often contains too little high-quality protein, iron, zinc, vitamin B12 and vitamin D – important for collagen formation and wound closure. We recommend a protein-rich diet around the procedure and discuss targeted supplementation for a vegan diet.
Honest disclosure
What the procedure can achieve – and what it cannot
Virginity can neither be read from nor proven by the hymen. Even a natural hymen does not always bleed during first intercourse. Bleeding cannot be guaranteed by the procedure – no one can honestly promise this. The reconstructed tissue may tear without bleeding at all – this is normal and not a sign of a failed result.
The goal is the most inconspicuous result possible. However, complete invisibility or undetectability cannot be guaranteed – scars or subtle changes may be detectable in certain circumstances.

A personal examination in Basel is mandatory before the procedure – surgery will not be performed without it.
The procedure itself takes around 30 minutes under local anesthesia; you go home the same day. A longer stay in Basel is not required.

Cancellation up to one week before the procedure is free of charge; for cancellation within the final week 50% of the procedure fee is charged, and 100% for non-attendance.

II · Examination & planning
Specialist examination and assessment of the hymenal tissue and overall tissue situation. Following a vaginal birth, too little suitable hymenal tissue may remain – whether reconstruction is possible can only be assessed at the examination. Individual planning if a particular date is important to you (healing: 3–6 weeks).

III · Outpatient procedure
Performed on an outpatient basis at the Basel practice under local anesthesia, duration approx. 30 minutes. Reconstruction with fine, self-dissolving sutures; if needed, a slight narrowing of the vaginal opening in the same procedure. Local anesthesia should prevent sharp pain during the procedure; pressure or pulling may be felt. You go home the same day.
